Sun Moon Lake and Cingjing Farm Combined Tour
This tour combines visits to Sun Moon Lake's Shuishe Pier, Xuanguang Temple, and Cingjing Farm, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural exploration.
Shuishe Pier at Sun Moon Lake
Shuishe Pier is located at the northern end of Sun Moon Lake and is the most bustling area of the lake, often crowded with tourists. It serves as a starting point for boat tours and is a hub for public transportation, including buses and bike rentals.
The name 'Shuishe' comes from the language of the local indigenous Thao people, meaning 'by the water,' reflecting the area's deep connection with the lake. The Thao people are the original inhabitants of Sun Moon Lake, and their lives and culture are closely tied to this body of water.
Historically, Sun Moon Lake was an important activity site for the Thao people. In 1934, the Japanese colonial government established Taiwan's first large-scale hydroelectric power station here, making Sun Moon Lake even more famous. This power station is still in operation today and has become a popular tourist attraction.
The scenery around Shuishe Pier is very charming. Standing on the pier, you can enjoy a full view of Sun Moon Lake, with the lake surface reflecting the mountains like a mirror, creating a beautiful scene. It is also an excellent spot for watching the sunrise and sunset, with the lake turning golden at these times, creating a breathtaking view.
Additionally, there are many historical sites around Shuishe Pier, such as Wenwu Temple and the Thao Cultural Village, where you can learn about the history and culture of the Thao people and appreciate unique architectural styles.
Xuanguang Temple
Xuanguang Temple is located by Sun Moon Lake and is dedicated to the revered monk Xuanzang. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese took Xuanzang's relics, and after the war, some of these relics were given to the Buddhist Association of the Republic of China and brought to Taiwan in 1955, eventually being enshrined at Xuanguang Temple.
The temple features Tang Dynasty architectural style, simple and elegant, reflecting the ancient charm. Due to its proximity to Sun Moon Lake, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake, feeling as if they are in a painting.
Xuanguang Temple is just a few meters from the lakeside and has a pier where visitors can arrive by boat. Inside the temple, there is a golden statue of Xuanzang and a plaque reading 'National Master.' Although the relics have been moved to Xuanzang Temple, Xuanguang Temple remains a must-visit spot at Sun Moon Lake.
